An early depiction of Blackbrook House

New Resident Moves Into Blackbrook House

29th April 2014

Recently a new resident joined our ever growing family at Blackbrook House. Now a residential care home for the elderly, Blackbrook House was once owned by the Parker family, and our new resident knew of the family when they lived here.

The history of Blackbrook is an interesting one; built in 1782 by John Barton, it was originally called Blackbrook Place. In the early 1800’s Sir William Biddulph Parker & his wife Lady Parker lived at Blackbrook, they often welcomed the local community into their grand home.

In 1928 the house was sold for just £14,000, an incredible sum when we consider today's house prices! By the 1950s the house had been turned into a maternity home for the NHS and many local people will have been born here.  We have a lovely community based website 'Blackbrook Babies', where we invite you to upload your baby photos and reminisce about your time as Mother and baby at Blackbrook.  Why not pay Blackbrook Babies a visit and add to our wall of photos; just click this link.
