An early depiction of Blackbrook House

Blackbrook House - A Grand Georgian Residence Then and Now

18th January 2018

Blackbrook House initially started out as a grand Georgian home (then known as Blackbrook Place) built for John Barton around 1782. It was a fine luxury home built with Beaulieu brick which featured 20 bedrooms, a nursery with 6 rooms across the top floor, a magnificent library and extravagant marble mantelpiece. The grounds which would have extended a lot further than they do today included a kitchen garden, orchard and two grass tennis courts.

Over time the house was owned by several different people and therefore was extended and changed with the latest fashions before being adapted to become a maternity home in 1950's.

Now Blackbrook House is owned by Steve Press who has created this special care home offering unique luxury country house living for older people. The decoration, furniture and furnishing are all carefully designed in order to maintain the grand feel this house was built for.
